Bringing People Together in 2014

Extreme Community Makeover
Let's Finish 2014 Strong

BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER

Take a look at this photo - now look closer.  Some people are smiling, some people are trying to make other people in the photo look silly, while some people aren't even looking at the camera. That doesn't really matter though.  What does matter is that Extreme Community Makeover (ECM) is bringing people together - and this specific group is just one example of hundreds of groups that have come together to lend a helping hand and demonstrate how to be a good neighbor this year.

In these last few days of 2014, consider making a tax-deductible donation to ECM.  If we finish 2014 strong, we will be in great shape to start 2015 and embark on our goals for next year.

Here are two easy ways you can give:
  • via check made payable to "Extreme Community Makeover" and mailed to:
           Extreme Community Makeover
           PO Box 102586
           Denver, CO 80250-2586

Thank you for your partnership in 2014!

Sincerely,

As we usually like to do at this time of the year, let's recap some of our favorite ECM memories of 2014:

  • January - spent time strategic planning for our goals for 2014

  • February - witnessed another great group of Extreme Teams volunteers identify their contributions to executing successful Work Days

  • March - kicked off the year with an event for our donors and key volunteers

  • April - had an executive assistant start working with ECM on a regular basis

  • May - started a pilot project called time banking in three ECM neighborhoods

  • June - completed a successful crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for a truck

  • July - saw volunteers travel from 13 different states to participate in ECM projects this summer

  • August - surpassed having 20,000 volunteers involved in ECM since we began in 2008

  • September - continued to have many of our long-time groups and lots of new groups participate in Work Days

  • October - started a project called neighbor circles in another ECM neighborhood

  • November - hosted a fun "Art is in the Air" fundraising event for the fifth year

  • December - ended the year with another record setting 3,720 volunteers who completed 251 projects

Thanks for a great year!

ECM Tops the List

Extreme Community Makeover
Top 5 Reasons to Support ECM
As you might be aware, Colorado Gives Day is coming up on Tuesday, December 9, which is the single largest day of giving in the state of Colorado each year!  We know there are a lot of great organizations you can support with your hard earned dollars, so consider five of the top reasons why donating to Extreme Community Makeover is important this holiday season.

5 - The eight neighborhoods where ECM works have been visited by the helping hands of
3,720 volunteers who helped complete 251 projects in 2014

4 - ECM makes things happen through volunteers who have invested $467,299.25 in
volunteer labor into some of Denver's most underserved neighborhoods this year alone

3 - According to residents assisted in 2014, 75% would not have been able to complete
these projects on their own, without the help of ECM volunteers

2 - Since ECM began in 2008, 20,995 volunteers have been mobilized to impact Denver neighborhoods through those willing to demonstrate how to be a good neighbor

1 - In the words of Ginger, an older woman assisted by ECM who has cancer and lives alone,
"I thank God every day for Extreme Community Makeover"

Extreme Team - Photography

Extreme Community Makeover has amazing volunteer opportunities. We have our typical Work Days and we also offer opportunities to get more involved with our Extreme Teams.

One one of the Extreme Teams is our Photography Team. You can capture what happens during Work Days through taking photos of residents and volunteers. These photos will be used for multiple communication purposes, including thanking volunteers and creating memories for everyone.

Check out our video testimonial of Josh, a member of our Photography Extreme Team.

This past weekend we wrapped up our schedule of Saturday Work Days happening every other weekend.  2014 was another record setting year of volunteer involvement with 3,705 people participating in ECM projects, allowing us to partner with 251 residents to complete a project at their home!  What strikes me most about these numbers is that each person can truly make a difference.  The generosity of each of you who have given your time to lend a helping hand during a Work Day project, multiplied times 3,705, means we are creating a culture of helping others and demonstrating that we are better when we work together.  So thanks for your role in making "being a good neighbor" a tangible reality in communities around Denver!

Fri Nov 14: Art is in the Air
"Art is in the Air" is next Friday, November 14 and we're getting excited for one of the most fun ECM events of the year!  We will have wine from Tony's Market, beer from Mountain Monk Brewing Co., appetizers from King Soopers and Maria Empanada, and homemade desserts.  We also have lots of great raffle and silent auction items for you to win as well!  Here what our event sponsor, Nate Postlethwait with Fuller Sotheby's International Realty, has to say about why he's involved in "Art is in the Air" in the video below.

Company Partner: Baron Properties
Baron Properties is a Colorado owned and operated real estate company committed to providing high quality apartment living at an affordable price. Their team of dedicated professionals bring to our communities more than thirty years of experience in property management.  The employees of Essex Financial Services joined a Globeville neighbor to paint her home recently and did a great job...thank you!
Company Partner: Denver Transit Partners
Denver Transit Partners Denver Transit Partners is the Regional Transportation District (RTD) selected concessionaire for the Eagle P3 Project.  The East Rail Line of the Eagle P3 Project is a 22.8 mile commuter rail transit corridor between Denver Union Station and Denver International Airport (DIA).  It will connect the Downtown Denver area with DIA and also provide a vital transportation link for adjacent employment, neighborhood and new development areas along the route.  We enjoyed having Denver Transit Partners join ECM for a recent Work Day in the Swansea neighborhood and for their support of being involved locally with the communities impacted by their work.  Thank you!
